Learning and Development
We value all our colleagues and want them to reach their full potential. We invest in a wide variety of learning and development opportunities to help our colleagues shape their careers.
Our Talent Hub provides a shop window to our industry-leading learning and development programmes.
It is home to our award-winning programmes, including a range of leadership learning and development resources, apprenticeship programmes and our new Retail Ready learning. All have been carefully designed to build the skills and capabilities that make the biggest difference to delivering a great job.
Our Lead Asda curriculum is accredited by the Institute of Leadership. This professional recognition is a kitemark of quality for our Leadership Learning programme, setting us apart from others and illustrates we provide the most-up-to-date approach and content.
Apprenticeships: when it comes to career possibilities, we’ve got everything covered!
We support our colleagues in learning, upskilling and reskilling, and developing capabilities to meet the future needs of the business and support social mobility. Over the years, we’ve introduced 80 Apprenticeship programmes, from Level 2 to Level 7 across our stores, depots and home offices, including degree apprentices in data science, supply chain leadership and business management.
Our new Dispensing Optician (DO) Apprenticeship is the first Apprenticeship of its kind in the optical profession, and like all our Apprenticeships provides colleagues with an accessible route to progressing their careers.
We don’t just support apprentices internally, but we also support small and medium enterprises through the Levy Transfer scheme. In 2024 alone we committed to transfer £893,000, bringing our total committed amount to £4.6m. This includes apprenticeships such as Associate Ambulance Practitioner, Police Community Support Officer, Pharmacy Technician and Adult Care Workers.
Asda is a part of The Association of Apprentices network, which is a not-for-profit membership organisation, providing a social and professional network for UK apprentices. Through the Association, apprentices can access additional learning and development, and get support from apprentices outside their workplace, building a life-long community.

Asda Heroes: Primary School Engagement
Our Asda Early Careers Team, along with the school's local Community Champion, visits the primary teams each half term to deliver sessions so that the young people can develop a socially responsible project that will make a positive impact in their local community. Asda futures: Secondary School engagement
This programme was developed so that young people from Years 9 & 10 could discover hidden careers within retail. This is achieved by delivering sessions throughout the year where they have been given the task of developing a sustainable range for an event of their choice and along with activities to develop employability skills they will increase their confidence, creativity, teamwork and public speaking skills. To ensure the young people are producing a sustainable project they will learn about the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals with a focus on Responsible Consumption and Production and Climate Action as well as working with a variety of Asda colleagues to embed understanding.
Asda leaders : Year 10 & Year 12 engagement

The young people will learn about the United Nations Sustainability Goals as it is proven to raise aspirations and by working as a team they will virtually engage with a mentor from Asda who will support them in creating a business solution as well as becoming aware of opportunities that the business has for young people when leaving education.
