The West Bann Development Centre in Coleraine is set to benefit from a donation of nearly £13,500 from the Asda Foundation – a charitable trust, established by Asda to support good causes in local communities.

The centre, which has been in operation since 2004, was designed to help stimulate regeneration and enhance community life in the area. The sizeable donation from Asda will be used to provide a new lift for the centre, which is essential for its users to access the facilities.

Centre Manager Eugene McFeely explains: “Over the years the demand for the service our centre provides has increased dramatically. We help individuals from all walks of life and of all ages, from our Mother and Toddler groups to ‘Good Morning Causeway’ - a telephone service for older people. It is our mission to create an accessible, welcoming and safe place for the whole community.”

“Through wear and tear over the years, we have had some issues with our lift – which is vital for the elderly but also for the mums and toddlers that use our facility. The donation is a blessing – put quite simply we cannot function without the lift, so a massive thank you to the Asda Foundation.”

Asda Coleraine’s Community Life Champion, Shelia Palmer commented on the donation: “As Community Life Champion for Asda Coleraine I have seen first-hand how the centre has become a hub for the community and I’m thrilled that the Asda Foundation has been able to support its work with this sizeable donation – it will really make such a difference! Congratulations to the West Bann Development Centre and I can’t wait to see the new lift in action!”
