£4.37 Asda wine named best in the world at Decanter World Wine Awards
Asda is celebrating after one of its exclusive red wines was awarded ‘worldy’ status
Asda's exclusive La Moneda Reserva Malbec has beaten stiff competition to be named Best in Show in its category at the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards yesterday. This takes Asda’s 2016 wine awards tally to 293, a 237% increase on last year.
Customers were so impressed with the bargain bottle that the flurry of orders crashed the supermarket’s online Wine Shop.
The Chilean red, currently on rollback at just £4.37, was praised for flavours of "freshly crushed black fruit, creamy vanilla yoghurt and pepper spice" and noted for its good value.
16,000 bottles were entered into the competition, which consists of a blind tasting test with a panel of 240 experts at the world's largest and most influential wine competition.
Ed Betts, Wine Buying Manager says: "Having been named Decanter's Supermarket of the Year in 2015, we are very proud to again be picking up multiple awards at this year's Decanter World Wine Awards. Our team of wine experts are always striving to offer our customers the very best value and our award for Best Single Varietal Red under £15 award in particular demonstrates this. At just £5.75, the exclusive La Moneda Reserva Malbec is the perfect example of how we're able to offer shoppers exceptional quality at low prices. The La Moneda Reserva Malbec is also currently on rollback at £4.37, and as the perfect match to barbecued meats, we're expecting high demand in the coming weeks!"
