Brand new Extra Special smoked salmon range, traditionally smoked for longer than any other retailer
Asda is taking smoking to new levels this autumn with the launch of a smoked salmon that’s smoked for an astonishing 24 hours, longer than any other supermarket. The Extra Special Rich & Intense Smoked Salmon is part of Asda’s traditionally hung Extra Special range of Scottish smoked salmon, which uses time-honoured methods to produce salmon of the highest quality to bespoke recipes. Responsibly sourced from farms in the crisp waters off Shetland, Orkney and the west coast of Scotland, all of Asda’s Extra Special smoked salmon is hung for a minimum of 15 hours in traditional brick kilns. After being skillfully filleted, the salmon is cured with a perfect balance of sea salt and Demerara sugar to give an irresistibly fine flavour.
If you’re searching for smoked salmon that packs a punch, the Extra Special Rich & Intense Smoked Salmon (£4.00) is smoked over peat and cherry wood chips for an impressive 24 hours, creating a rich and distinctive taste. Simply serve with buttered granary bread and light salad for a convenient and simple starter, which requires minimal preparation but promises flavour that’s sure to impress.
For those who like their smoked salmon subtle, Asda has created the Extra Special Mild & Delicate Smoked Salmon (£4.00). The salmon is traditionally hung and smoked in a brick kiln for 15 hours over a bespoke combination of oak and Applewood chips, imparting an understated flavour that allows the natural salmon to shine through.
For an extra Scottish twist, Asda’s Extra Special Whisky Smoked Scottish Salmon (£4.00) is smoked for 15 hours over whisky barrel chips as well as oak, before being infused with Speyburn Single Malt Scotch Whisky, a local whisky distilled just up the road from the smokery. For a twist on a classic hor d’oeuvre, serve on a crushed avocado-topped blini and garnish with dill.
Those who enjoy the sweeter things in life should try the Extra Special Maple smoked salmon (£4.00). Having been smoked for 15 hours over maple and oak chips, the salmon is then infused with Canadian maple syrup. Showcase its subtly sweet flavour by serving simply with crisp cucumber on a slice of sour rye bread; a low-maintenance and tasty lunchtime treat.
