Scotty Brand celebrates a new deal with Asda to exclusively stock new cake products across Scottish stores
Scotty Brand have certainly had their cake and eaten it, as they celebrate a new £150,000 deal with Asda to exclusively stock two new cake products in Scottish stores, a move that sees the Airdrie-based producer diversify into the bakery market.
Adding to the already robust range of 28 Scotty Brand lines already available in Asda, the new Scottish Fancies - which are a unique twist on the French Fancy and High Tea favourites will be stocked in 57 and 42 Scottish stores respectively. Recent data has demonstrated that one in three Scottish consumers have purchased products from the Scotty Brand family in the last year.*
Being the first retailer to stock the range, Asda and Scotty Brand have worked in tandem to fill a gap in the market and cater for a growing desire amongst Scots for light, handcrafted Scottish cakes perfect for an afternoon snack or for entertaining.
“Our existing and diverse range of Scotty Brand products are already hugely popular with the nearly two million customers who shop at our stores every week and these new delicious guilty pleasures will no doubt become a favourite,” commented June Rose, Buying Assistant for Asda Scotland.
June continued: “We’ve worked closely with Scotty Brand for over five years and continued to do so throughout our Supplier Development Academy, which aims to support innovation, growth, retail understanding and commercial and marketing practices.
“Our prosperous relationships with suppliers, and Scotty Brand in particular, allow us to deliver authentic, great tasting Scottish products direct to shelves for customers to enjoy, on a continuing basis.”
Richard Allison, General Manager of Scotty Brand, added: “At Scotty Brand nothing is more important to us than our heritage and promoting the unique food and drink industry that we have in Scotland."
“We sell over two million packs from our family with Asda every year and through our partnership, we have grown, year on year, to become the 15th largest food and drink brand in Scotland and so this new contract couldn’t be a more perfect fit.”
“Diversifying in the bakery market was a natural next step for us as we know our customers love our high quality produce. We will be working hard with Kerrs Bakery in Motherwell to continue to fill a gap in the market and allow Scots to enjoy handmade, quality cakes.”
Combining the lightest sponge cake, sweet cream fondant and smooth white icing, the Scottish Fancies are now available for £2.
For £3, the multipack Scottish High Tea Favourites have something for everyone, including two Scottish Fancies, two Jammy Raspberry and Coconut Squares and two zesty Lemon Iced Sponges.
Asda and Scotty Brand have worked in partnership for more than five years and most recently announced that Scotty Brand will be supplying seasonal soups to around 35 Asda Cafes on a rotating basis.
