A Welsh business is celebrating impressive sales of its locally sourced mineral water which are going from strength to strength with Asda.

Sales of Brecon Carreg mineral water, sourced from the Brecon Beacons National Park, have grown by over 50% in the last twelve months at Asda supermarkets across Wales.

The growth follows a successful partnership between the Carmarthenshire-based Welsh water supplier and national supermarket chain, Asda.

Nestled in the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park is the protected source of Brecon Carreg natural mineral water. Their small team of just 30 are entrusted with drawing and bottling Brecon Carreg from deep underground – an outstandingly pure natural mineral water which is also low in sodium.

The award winning brand has come a long way from their cottage industry roots and is proudly the number one still and sparkling water in Wales. That said, Brecon Carreg has never lost sight of what makes them truly unique; a local team with a real passion for producing a pure natural mineral water from the heart of Wales.

The business was founded in 1978, where the water was originally bottled by hand and was first listed at Asda in 1999.

Year on year, sales are up 51% in the 34 stores where Brecon Carreg mineral water is sold, meaning 2016 is set to be the best year yet since Brecon Carreg was first listed at Asda stores 17 years ago.

In 2016 alone, the company has already sold more than 750,000 litres of water in Asda stores which equates to almost 25,000 litres of water sold every week.

“We are looking forward to further growth in the future and our will continue to go above and beyond the produce Wales’ favourite water.”

Asda, which has 34 stores across Wales, currently has over 40 different Welsh based suppliers and in the last 12 months alone has introduced more than 27 new product lines from these businesses, stocking over 400 local lines across its Welsh stores.

Matt Trigg, Asda’s local sourcing and events manager for Wales, said: “We work closely with our local suppliers across the country, and listen to customer feedback, to ensure that our shelves are always stocked with the most innovative local produce available, especially in Wales."
