Asda took the top spot as Retailer of the Year at last night’s Q awards, the most prestigious awards for UK food and drink products.
As well as taking the big award of the night, Asda racked up 12 other winners, including the Gold Q for Value which went to Asda for its Smart Price Toffee. A further 74 products were highly commended by the judges.
Asda’s fresh meat shone with its Extra Special Lamb Guard of Honour with Redcurrant and Mint and its Extra Special Golden Apron Outdoor Bred Pork Loin Joint with Yorkshire Black Pudding, Caramelised Bramley Apple and Lovage Stuffing winning in the lamb and pork categories. Both products are brand new this year and were developed alongside and award-winning, Michelin star chef.
The awards also got in to the festive spirit, with the Christmas Q Meat going to Asda’s Extra Special British Venison with Mulled Fruit Stuffing, Oak Smoked Bacon & Cranberry and Prosecco Sauce and Christmas Q Sweet for its Extra Special Gingerbread Extra Thick Cream.
Andrew Moore, Chief Merchandising Officer at Asda said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have won Retailer of the Year at the Q Awards. It’s a reflection of Asda’s hard work and commitment to put high quality products on shelves for our customers, all at our famously low prices. We’ve invested to make our products even better this year and seeing this recognised through 12 awards, as well as a number of other highly commended lines is a great achievement, and one that we will continue to build on.”
