Asda recognised as one of UK’s top apprentice employers

Apprentice in store

Asda has been included in the Centrica Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer list as one of the UK’s leading employers of apprentices - the only one of the big four supermarkets to be included on the list.

Announced on Friday 20th January at the National Apprenticeship Awards, the annual Top 100 list recognises excellence in organisations that employ apprentices.

Asda was recognised as a macro apprentice employer as 2,028 apprentices took their retail skills to the next level over the last 18 months. The National Apprenticeship Service, that compiles the list, particularly commended the structure of Asda’s apprenticeship which provides a diverse offering to advance each candidate’s chosen career path and required skills.

Kate Fisher, Senior Director of Talent, Capability and Leadership in Asda’s People team, welcomed Asda’s inclusion in the list; “We are delighted to be included on Centrica’s Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer List. We take pride in recognising that each candidate is unique and looking to develop different skills and we are pleased to see the breadth of our apprenticeship offering benefitting so many of our candidates, enabling them to build a future at Asda. We look forward to providing further support for more colleagues to grow, develop and enhance their confidence and skills in their own unique way.”

Apprenticeships at Asda offer a breadth of opportunities for both Asda employees and those interested in joining the business. From roles in the IT department, George, through to Home Shopping and Retail Management there is something for everyone at any level.

This award comes off the back of a series of recent wins for Asda, recognised as an inclusive employer and a great place to work. In 2016, Asda received the ‘Top Employers Institute United Kingdom 2016 Certification’ and gained a place on Stonewall’s ‘Top 100 Most Inclusive Employers in Britain.’

Recent Asda female talent recognised for their outstanding contribution to retail have included Rukia Hussain, Fresh Replenishment & Production Manager, selected to become an everywoman Retail Ambassador and Alex Newbould, Head of Pricing Strategy, won the Women of the Future Awards for Business.
