Nothing marks the exciting countdown to Christmas like an advent calendar, and kids aren’t the only ones leaping out of bed to receive their daily dose of Christmas cheer. A fifth of adults admit they still expect an advent calendar every year, with 1 in 5 revealing opening an advent calendar is their favourite Christmas tradition.

Attachment to the Christmas tradition is so strong that 14% of grown-ups reveal it’s the best part of Christmas – overtaking opening Christmas stockings. And it’s the blokes who are fondest of festive fun, with the research from Asda revealing men are twice as likely to be upset and disappointed if they don’t receive an advent calendar than women.

Some Brits are so protective of their advent calendars, that one in ten admit they’ve even hidden theirs from ‘calendar crooks’ within the family for fear of the contents being swiped.

Asda has seen a recent boom in sales of adult-only novelty advent calendars, with its cheese advent calendar flying off the shelves last year, and this year the retailer expects to double sales of the sell-out calendar. To cope with the demand, Asda has expanded its range of advent calendars exclusively for grownups, whether you’re a gin-lover, whisky connoisseur or beer buff.

Alongside its delicious chocolate and cheese advent calendars this Christmas, Asda is stocking three sensational boozy Christmas-themed treats, including a Gin calendar, Jack Daniels calendar and BrewDog ’12 Beers of Christmas’ pack.

Robyn Tisdale, Asda Beers, Wines and Spirits Christmas Gifts Buyer, comments: “With the popularity in adult-only novelty advent calendars on the rise, we’ve been looking at exciting new ways to reinvent the Christmas tradition, ensuring there’s something for every ‘kidult’. With three iconic options covered this year – including the nation’s most loved tipple, gin – we hope to continue to grow our range and we’re already developing calendars for next year.”

Whether you’re a big kid or a little kid, Asda is the one stop shop for all your advent calendar needs this Christmas. To make sure there’s something for everyone to join in on the Christmas countdown, Asda also has advent calendars for cheese connoisseurs and beauty buffs, as well as a range of fun toy advent calendars for the little ones.

For the whisky aficionado
This year, Asda will also be exclusively selling the Jack Daniel’s advent calendar – which is sure to be a hit with whiskey lovers across the nation. With 23 miniatures included in the calendar, including smooth sipping whiskeys and fiery delights, as well as other Jack Daniels surprises – counting down to Christmas has never been so tasty. Retailing at £60, and available from November, this is the perfect calendar for those who enjoy the finer things in life.

For the beer buff
Asda is also spreading festive cheer with craft beer – in the form of its exclusive BrewDog ‘12 Beers of Christmas pack’. With 12 different craft ales to sip on, this variety pack of festive beers is the perfect gift for craft connoisseurs or for those looking to find a beer which pleases their palate.
