Asda is set to bring the nation together this weekend as England and Scotland begin their World Cup campaign; the tournament, which kicks off on Friday, will have football fans across the country gripped in the hope that the teams will bring home some footballing success.
The retailer has got the ‘ball rolling’ by bringing special deals on Pizza, Prosecco and Pringles for customers who are preparing to watch a packed weekend of sport on TV. Whilst the weather isn’t forecast to be a scorcher, the TV guide definitely is, and Asda predicts that 20% more customers will be buying pizza ready for the big game, as well as those hit for six with Cricket World Cup.
Customers are also letting their neighbours know who they are supporting too as both Asda’s footballing and cricketing gnomes have seen a spike in sales of 15%. We’re also selling a range of children’s football PJ’s for those who want to lounge about on a lazy Sunday supporting the team.
As for half time thirst quenchers Asda is anticipating an increase in sales of booze too, including the Women’s World Cup branded Budweiser at just 24 bottles for £12 and 18 bottles of Corona for just £12.
Football fans wouldn’t want to be penalised by missing out on a special edition Women’s World Cup Panini sticker book, these have been shooting off the shelves as supporters collect the famous sticker packs and try to fill their books ahead of the competition kicking off.
England will be all set to take on Scotland in their first game on Sunday and we’ve seen a number of local Asda stores showing their support for their respective teams. In Manchester our Eastlands store which neighbours Manchester City’s home Etihad Stadium has 8 players featuring in the England squad.
They wished the team good luck by decorating some of the stores counters, including the pizza counter with special St George's Flag pepperoni pizza. But up in Scotland our stores are not being overshadowed as our Govan store in Glasgow has also gone above and beyond with Saltire flags and bunting ahead of Sunday's game.
