Speaking of the expected uplift in sales on certain key lines across the tournament period, an Asda spokesperson said, “We’re certainly expecting more people celebrate in the home - and likely in smaller groups - given the time of year, versus going to the pub or hosting BBQs that we may see in Summer.

“We are expecting on average around a 7% uplift on beer and cider sales for the World Cup – of which, 25% will be across key brands such as Budweiser. We also anticipate around a 10% increase in sales of popcorn, and things like Cadburys ‘mini bites’ and Asda Bakery Mini Bites, in the expectation of shoppers hosting mini gatherings”.
