Asda has ten luxury desserts for Christmas 2023, from melting avalanche showstoppers to award-winning Christmas puds, shoppers are advised to keep some room for after dinner delights this Christmas.
Crowned Best Christmas Pudding in Good Housekeeping Institute 2023’s Christmas Taste tests, the Extra Special Jewel Topped Christmas Pudding (£12.00) is the traditional star of the show, scoring an impressive 86/100 and beating the likes of Waitrose and M&S. The rich and nutty Christmas pudding is made with plump sultanas, orange and lemon peel and a pinch of spice, mixed with lashings of cider and rum. Crowned with vibrant whole glace cherries, crunchy almonds and hand placed candied orange slices and finished with a shot of cognac.
The dessert with a difference, the Extra Special Chocolate & Honeycomb Avalanche Dessert (£10.00) is this year’s winner of Best Christmas Dessert in the Good Housekeeping Christmas Taste Test. With a score of 87/100, Good Housekeeping say, “We think it’s the perfect way to round off your feast”. Bringing the festive theatre, the chocolate sauce is designed to flow down the salted caramel semifreddo, which is filled with salted caramel sauce, milk chocolate shavings and honeycomb pieces.
Perfect for the traditionalists, the Extra Special Chocolate & Orange Panettone (£6.00) is made at a second generation, family-run bakery in the Piedmont region of Italy with an all-butter recipe, made with a mother dough – nurtured since 1964. The Italian sweet bread is made with Belgian milk chocolate chunks, candied orange peel and butter, injected with a chocolate and orange sauce, then topped with dark chocolate. In festive, high-quality packaging – it’s perfect to gift to a loved one or to contribute to a dinner party.
For those who like rich desserts, the Extra Special Black Forest Woodland Cake (£14.00) is made with chocolate butter enriched sponge and filled with a tart Morello cherry sauce. The cake is coated in chocolate ganache and chocolate shavings for a truly indulgent bite, and hand-decorated with edible sweet melt and chocolate decoration.
Perfect for the pickers, the **Extra Special Black Forest Stollen Bites (£3.00) **are a cheaper but luxurious option, made using cherry dough filled with Belgian chocolate chunks with an added a layer of marzipan, and hand-dipped the dough in a Maraschino sauce, with Belgian chocolate chunks and a sweet dusting.
No Christmas is complete without an Extra Special Black Forest Yule Log (£8.50). The log is a hand-rolled chocolate sponge with cherry jam, enrobed in milk chocolate and covered in a white chocolate ganache, decorated with a bronze milk chocolate and topped with festive decoration.
For a bit of glitz, the **Extra Special Amaretto & Cherry Cheesecake (£10.00) **biscuit base is topped with caramel cheesecake and finished with amaretto sauce pockets. Decorated with cherry glaze, sour cherry pieces and hand finished with an amber shimmer – set to sparkle at the dinner table.
Asda can offer two stand-out, luxury vegan offerings this Christmas. The **OMV! Double Choc & Honeycomb Cake Pop Bites (£4.00) **are cake-based truffles, with a rich and dense chocolatey centre, studded with crunchy honeycomb pieces and coated in Belgian dark chocolate. Hand-finished with a rose gold lustre for a touch of festive sparkle – as bite size treats, they’re perfect to gift (and share!). A great alternative to a dairy based trifle, **the OMV! Strawberry Trifle (£6.95) **is made up of a tangy strawberry compote and whole strawberries. Topped with hand-placed egg free sponge and a dairy free custard, finished with lentil and coconut cream.
