MONDAY 8TH JULY: Today, Asda announces the launch of a once-in-a-lifetime wine-tasting experience…in the sky!

Between the 24th and the 25th of July, lucky guests have the chance to board one of the supermarket’s aptly named ‘Wine Flights’. The unique tasting experience will see guests enjoy, sip and savour each of the six new Wine Atlas wines in a hot air balloon above the beautiful British countryside, taking off from Ashton Court Estate in Bristol.

Accompanied by one of Asda’s in-house wine experts to guide the experience, the balloon is fully equipped with seats and tables so guests can kick back and relax as they sample the wine and tuck into accompanying nibbles – all whilst savouring the stunning views beneath them. Taking off between 6.30pm and 7pm, the flights are perfectly timed to align with golden hour, ensuring stunning panoramic vistas all-flight long.

Asda’s new Wine Atlas range is a passport to wine discovery, uncovering hidden gems at fantastic prices. The wines to be tasted on the flight include a citrus, peach and orange-blossom fuelled Carricante (£6.50) from Sicily’s volcanic slopes (a Decanter World Wine Awards Bronze Winner 2024 and IWC 2024 Silver winner), a fuller-bodied Monastrell Rosé  (£6.50) from southeast Spain (a Decanter World Wine Awards Bronze Winner 2024 and IWSC Bronze Medal Winner 2024) and a Portuguese Jaen (£7) with notes of cherry and raspberry (a Decanter World Wine Awards Bronze Winner 2024, IWC Bronze Medal Winner 2024 and IWSC Bronze Medal Winner 2024).

Travellers can also enjoy a green apple and citrus-led Sauvignon Blanc Rhoditis (£7) from sun-drenched Greece, an apple blossom-scented Corsican Rosé (£7) and a spicy peach and tropical fruit-scented Feteascâ Regalâ (£6) from the hills of Romania (another Decanter World Wine Awards Bronze Winner 2024). All three wines were also Bronze medal winners at the recent prestigious International Wine Challenge (IWC) 2024.

Shining a light on lesser-known grape varieties and wine-growing regions at just £7 and under, the Wine Atlas range offers great value alternatives to more traditional wines. Asda Rewards app users can also earn £2 back in their Cashpot when they buy any two bottles from the Wine Atlas range, from now until the 31st July 2024.

James Yelland, Senior Manager of Wine Buying at Asda said: “Asda’s Wine Flight experience takes wine discovery to new heights, with an unforgettable trip that we’re incredibly excited to offer to some of our lucky customers.

“When selecting what to drink, it can be tempting to stick to what we know and enjoy, but there’s a wealth of grape varieties and fantastic wine-making regions that are still relatively unexplored. The Wine Atlas range is all about broadening horizons and branching out from what we’re used to, and some of our highlights include Fetească Regală from the Mureș County in Romania and the native Greek Rhoditis.

The hour-long evening flights will take place between 24th-25th July. To be in with a chance of securing a spot, customers can enter here. Entries are open now and will close on Thursday 18th July when places will be allocated via a ballot.
