Asda trials new uniform for store colleagues
Asda has launched a trial of a new uniform for store colleagues, in what is the retailer’s first significant overhaul to its uniform in over 12 years.
The six-week trial will see over 2,600 colleagues across 12 stores sporting a fresh new look with ten different types of uniform available, each of which are suited to specific roles.
Through testing the uniform in their everyday roles, colleagues will provide detailed feedback on every aspect of the uniform – from the look and fit, through to comfort, wearability and even how the items wash. This feedback will then inform the official new uniform for colleagues, which Asda hopes to launch in 2026.
The trial uniform has already incorporated feedback shared by Asda’s colleague representatives, and includes trialling an improved fabric to the clothing to make it more breathable. The addition of natural cotton to the trial uniform is aimed at helping colleagues better regulate their body temperature, particularly those with peri-menopausal and menopausal symptoms.
Hayley Tatum MBE, Chief People and Corporate Affairs Officer at Asda, commented: “We’re excited to launch this uniform trial – our first major redesign in over a decade. We’ve put our colleagues at the heart of this trial, enlisting their support to ensure the uniform not only meets their needs, but that they are proud to wear it. We’re looking forward to hearing their thoughts in the coming weeks and using this insight to shape the final version of the uniform.”
The garment styles and choices of uniform will be available to colleagues in different departments, with colleagues in George, Produce, Pharmacy, Drivers, and Bakery all set to receive uniform tailored to their specific day to day roles.
Asda has continued to invest in its colleagues throughout 2024, including investing a record £150m investment in its retail pay for 2024 to make Asda the highest paid traditional supermarket.
The retailer also recently announced it had partnered with financial benefits company Wagestream to offer a new UK-leading workplace savings account as an exclusive benefit for its 150,000 colleagues.
