WINE & CHEESE, PLEASE: ASDA REVEALS CHAMPION PAIRINGS, INSPIRED BY THE OLYMPICS!

With millions set to tune in and watch the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Asda celebrates the place where wine met cheese with expert pairings of cheeses from its new Exceptional range and multi award-winning wines from the new Wine Atlas range.

In true Parisian style, Asda’s Wine Expert, Clive Donaldson, has revealed the ultimate pairings for customers looking to indulge in this classic French tradition. Whether it’s to prepare the ultimate cheeseboard for a watch party, or for those looking to elevate a wine tasting experience, Asda is set to bring a taste of France to its shoppers.

Shining a spotlight on lesser-known wine regions, Asda’s new Wine Atlas range is a ‘passport to discovery’. Bringing undiscovered gems to UK shelves, and with six bottles available to shop, it’s perfect for those who are globally inspired during the international games.


Asda’s Exceptional range is a new, premium, own brand which champions taste, by providing the best quality and premium ingredients. From popular French Livarot and Comté cheeses, to others from around Europe, Asda shoppers don’t need to travel the world to have a taste of luxury. 
 
White wine & cheese pairings 

Giving customers a chance to taste the world, Clive carefully pairs the bright and refreshing Greek Wine Atlas Greece Roditis Sauvignon Blanc (£7) wine with notes of crisp apples, fresh pear and zesty citrus to the Exceptional by ASDA Barrel Aged Feta (£3), a sharp and bold with a crumbly texture Greek cheese.  

Asda’s Wine Atlas Carricante Terre Siciliane (£6.50), made with an ancient white grape grown in eastern Sicily for at least a thousand years is set to the enjoyed with Exceptional by ASDA Livarot PDO (£3), combining the underlying mineral character of the wine, with notes of orange blossom, to a washed rind French cheese that has a bold aroma and salty taste notes.  

The soft stone fruit and citrus notes of the Romanian Wine Atlas Feteasca Regala (£6) are said to be delightful with the Exceptional by ASDA Comté AOP (£3.75), a French cheese with deep nutty flavours and hints of sweet caramel.  

Rose wine & cheese pairings 

The elegant Wine Atlas Île-de-Beauté Rosé (£7) floral style rosé from the vineyards of Île de Beauté - France's 'Beautiful Island' in the Mediterranean, oozes notes of apple and orange blossom, with pink grapefruit and a delicious citrus palate, which can be elevated through Exceptional by ASDA Gorgonzola Piccante (£2.70) Italian creamy cheese and its intense, sharp flavour. 

The Spanish Wine Atlas Monastrell Rosado (£6.50) is a dry and complex rosé with aromas of raspberry, fennel and a touch of dried Mediterranean herbs. Expertly paired with the sweet and nutty Exceptional by ASDA Manchego DOP (£3.43) from Spain, creates a delicious, mouth-watering combo.  

Red wine & cheese pairings 

Wine Atlas Jaen Dão (£7.50) from the classic Dao region in Portugal, is a medium-bodied, cherry-coloured wine, with red-berry flavours and hints of spicy mint, thyme and liquorice. Selected to partner with the smooth, creamy and buttery Exceptional by ASDA Mature Double Gloucester (£2.85), the balance makes this pairing well worth trying.
