As summer begins, many Brits will be reaching for a cold pint or a can of beer. But when it comes to choosing exactly which beer, new research conducted by Asda reveals that nearly half (49%)* of Brits don’t know the difference between a craft beer and a ‘regular’ beer, with 60% believing that craft beer is the same as regular beer, just with a fancy label.
Whilst the UK’s craft beer industry is booming, 55% of Brits admit they’ve never tried a craft beer, rising to almost two thirds (61%) among those over 55 and over two thirds (66%) of people in Wales. One in 10 Brits simply think craft beers are too expensive, and one in five (22%) think IPA stands for Independent Pale Ale.
Helping to make craft beer more accessible to shoppers who are looking for something different with a local nod, but without breaking the bank, Asda is launching three NEW craft beers as part of its ongoing partnership with independent breweries across the UK.
Asda’s Beer Buyer says: “The beers are launching at a lower Asda price point, but with no compromise made on quality by the credible breweries who make them. We want everyone who likes, or wants to try a Craft Beer, to be able to come to Asda and walk away with their can of choice, but for the fraction of the price”.
New craft beers in the range include the ASDA x Harbour West Coast DIPA (£3.04) created in partnership with Harbour Brewing. This golden West Coast-style IPA is made with natural Cornish spring water. Born by the coast and crafted on the farm, it boasts full-bodied pine and grapefruit notes, thanks to a generous dose of American hops.
For those looking for a slightly sweeter beer, the **ASDA x SALT DIPA (£3.04) **created in partnership with SALT Beer Factory offers floral aromas with flavours of grapefruit and tropical fruits, resulting in subtle bitterness and a soft, rounded sweetness.
Alternatively, for a modern twist on a traditional style, the ASDA x Black Sheep Yorkshire Bitter (£2.22), delivers a classic amber bitter with floral and citrus aromas, balanced by top-quality pale ale and crystal malts. Created by Black Sheep Brewery in Asda’s home of Yorkshire, it’s sure to be a crowd pleaser.
With customers already loving the current range, other collaborations include ASDA x Full Circle DIPA (£3.03), ASDA x Kirkstall Hazy IPA (£2.78), ASDA x Tooth & Claw Pale Ale (£2.77) and ASDA x St Ives Brewery Sticky Toffee Pudding Stout (£2.77).
Asda’s range of craft beers, including the new lines, is available in stores and online now at Asda.com. With all beers included in the 4 for 3 deal, there's no better way to say cheers to Father's Day, as the occasion also coincides with National Beer Day in 2025.
