There may still be nine weeks to go until Easter, but Brits are proving that it’s never too early to indulge in a classic Easter treat…

Asda reports that searches for hot cross buns have soared by 98% in the last week alone, with 1,653,350 searches site-wide. Last year, the retailer saw searches for the bakery treat peak on the 18th of December – before Christmas had even started – selling 22.8m buns before the Easter weekend.

To mark the start of Hot Cross Bun season and satisfy the nation’s cravings, Asda announces its impressive 13 product strong line-up of all-new flavours and returning classics.

NEW for 2025

Asda’s 2024/2025 trend book predicted that ‘retro revival’ would be a characteristic food trend for the year ahead, and the latest retro dessert in the limelight is…tiramisu!

Thanks to
the viral tiramisu drawer on TikTok gaining over 6.4M views, tiramisu is undoubtedly having a moment – even showing up as the perfect wedding accessory on social media. Jumping ahead of the trend and tapping into the nation’s love for a foodie hybrid, Asda is bringing this iconic Italian flavour to a classic Easter treat with the launch of the all-new Exceptional Tiramisu Hot Cross Buns (£1.43 per four pack).

A first-to-market product, Asda’s tiramisu buns combine a rich, coffee flavoured bun with decadent Belgian dark chocolate chips and a velvety mascarpone cheese – a deliciously unorthodox twist on a classic (and a move that’s sure to have Italian traditionalists up in arms!).

Priced at just 36p per bun and packed with quality ingredients, the Tiramisu Hot Cross Buns make a fantastic value addition to any Easter table and shoppers are already going wild for the new flavour on social media. One excited user commented, “These would be soooo good” while another exclaimed, “🤤 tiramisu and fudge!! Getting right on them next time I go! 👀". Many are tagging their friends to try, with one user saying to a friend "think you would like as they would be like coffee! 😋x”.

Also new for 2025 are the irresistibly moreish Exceptional Raspberry and White Chocolate Hot Cross Buns (£1.43 per four pack). A fresh twist on a traditional bun, each raspberry flavoured hot cross bun is combined with smooth Belgian white chocolate chunks, before finishing with fruity, raspberry-flavoured cranberries and freeze-dried raspberries.

Last but by no means least in Asda’s starring line-up are the
Exceptional Caramel Fudge Hot Cross Buns (£1.43 per pack of four). Perfect for those with a sweet tooth, every silky, caramel-flavoured bun is layered with creamy, caramel fudge and mouth-watering salted caramel fudge pieces. Cornish sea salt adds an additional element of decadence to this tasty treat, cutting through the fudge with an irresistible flavour combination that’s perfect for the whole family to enjoy.

Commenting on the innovation behind the new flavours,
Product Developer for Hot Cross Buns, James Howat, said: “We’re so excited to launch this year’s range of Hot Cross Buns, including our first-to-market Tiramisu flavour.

“Inspired by a rise in Italian influences, we also wanted to tap into those retro flavours we all know and love, and our three new hot cross buns for 2025 take our customers on a trip down memory lane with nostalgic tastes like Raspberry and White Chocolate and Caramel Fudge. We hope our customers love the new flavours and relive memories from times gone by with our revamped versions of a classic Easter treat”.
