  • Asda has picked up a staggering 104 awards at the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) including five gold awards – more than any other UK supermarket in the competition

  • The latest wins cement Asda as the most awarded supermarket across the International Wine Challenge 2025, International Wine and Spirits Competition 2025 and DWWA 2025, combined

  • Across the three major wine competitions, Asda received over double the awards of Tesco and M&S, over four times more than Sainsbury’s and Aldi, and over 300 more awards than Waitrose

  • All of Asda’s DWWA Gold awarded wines are under £10, demonstrating the high quality at amazing value that shoppers can find in Asda’s wine aisles

In this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards 2025 (DWWA) Asda has come up top as the most awarded UK supermarket, also scooping up the highest number of gold awards for any UK supermarket in the competition.

The prestigious, global wine competition evaluated over 13,000 wines in total and awarded Asda 104 awards including five gold and 28 silver. These results make it Asda’s best year in the DWWA ever.

The DWWA also published its Top 30 Value Golds which point readers to a wider selection of the best wines in the competition priced under £15-a-bottle.

Five out of 30 of these Top Value Golds are wines exclusive to Asda, including the Exceptional Marques del Norte, Rioja Reserva 2019 (£8.07).

The wine was awarded 95 points with tasting notes of, “crammed with plump red cherry, cranberry and redcurrant with a moreish espresso, dark chocolate edge. Compact and embracing with a mouth-watering fruit driven length.”

Asda’s other gold awarded wines at the DWWA are perfect for summer drinking whether it’s for a BBQ, picnic or simply a glass in the sun:

  • Exceptional Gewurztraminer 2022 (£8.94) with tasting notes of, “Lychee, rose petal, elderflower and ginger lingers over the nose and palate with refreshing acidity to close.”

  • Exceptional Sicilian Reserve Red 2021 (£7.47) with tasting notes, of, “Impressive jammy dark berry fruits, chestnut notes with savoury oak and a pleasant herbal finish.”

  • Azul Marinho Alvarinho 2024 (£8.42) with tasting notes of, “Lots of ripe pear, peach, apricot and mandarin aromas with a riveting herbaceous complexity.”

  • Lugana 2024, (was £11.42, currently on Rollback at £9.96 until 2nd July 2025) with tasting notes of, “Aromas of orchard fruits, poached pear and pineapple with an elegant minty lift. Sumptuous and creamy on the palate, finishing with spicy complexity.”

Now in its 22nd year, the DWWA is the world’s largest wine competition. This year, wines were blind-tasted by 248 leading international experts, including 22 Master Sommeliers and 72 Masters of Wine – judged purely on quality.

The announcement takes Asda’s 2025 wine awards tally so far to 395 awards in its range.

Clive Donaldson, Senior Manager for Wine Sourcing at Asda says: “It’s fantastic to see so many of our wines picking up awards this season. It’s testament to our team of wine experts who are always striving to offer our customers not just exceptional quality, but at an Asda Price – offering uncompromising value every single day.
