Asda and Felix reach 50 million meal donation milestone

Asda and Felix are celebrating a major milestone in their long-standing partnership, having redistributed the equivalent of 50 million meals' worth of surplus food to people in need across the UK.

The retailer has worked with Felix – formerly FareShare and The Felix Project - for more than 13 years, supplying surplus food from its stores and distribution centres to help support a nationwide network of more than 5000 charities and community groups.

Since 2013, over 21,000 tonnes of surplus food have been redistributed through Asda’s back of store donation programme and nationwide Distribution Centre network.

This year alone, Asda has distributed the equivalent of almost 5 million meals, with the retailer on track for its biggest ever year of food redistribution through the Felix partnership.

This forms part of Asda's wider aim to halve food waste across its operations and supply chains by 2030 as part of the retailers commitment to the Food and Drink Pact.

The announcement coincides with the opening of applications for the Asda Foundation’s Foodbank Fundamentals Fund. Grants are available to local food banks to support the purchase of essential provisions and operational equipment, helping organisations sustain and enhance services for disadvantaged people across local communities.

Through its partnership with Felix, Asda donates surplus food that can no longer be sold but is still safe to eat, including products that are past their best before date. The food is redistributed to charities and community organisations supporting people in need.

Felix was founded in 2026 following the merger of The Felix Project and FareShare, creating the UK’s largest food redistribution charity. It rescues good- to-eat surplus food, that cannot be sold and would otherwise go to waste, from across the food industry. That food is repurposed and shared to support more than 8,000 community organisations across the UK, reaching over 1.5 million people.
