Britain’s biggest Banger is back

Christmas dinner’s biggest talking point is back, as Asda welcomes the return of its supersized Exceptional by Asda Hand Wrapped Giant Pig in Blanket.

Weighing in at an impressive 500g and priced at £5.37, serving eight people, the festive showstopper is made with prime British pork, expertly blended with traditional herbs and spices, before being hand-wrapped in dry-cured, oak-smoked streaky bacon. It comes frozen, making it easy for shoppers to stock up ahead of the big day.

And shoppers are already going wild for its return. A Facebook post from New Food Spotter UK, which has 140,000 followers, has attracted around 250 comments, with shoppers tagging friends and making plans to get their hands on one. Comments on the post include: “We need one of these bad boys 🤣”, “Get in my belly 😋”, “I want this in a baguette 🤣” and “I’ll grab one for Xmas”.

An Asda spokesperson said: “Pigs in blankets are one of the most hotly anticipated (and sometimes controversial) parts of Christmas dinner, so we’re delighted to bring back a version that gives shoppers even more to enjoy. Our Giant Pig in Blanket is made for sharing, although judging by the reaction on social media, some customers may have other ideas!

“It’s a brilliant centrepiece for festive feasts, Boxing Day spreads or even loaded into a baguette, as one shopper has already suggested. Because it comes frozen, customers can pick one up now and keep it ready for Christmas.”

For those who prefer their pigs in blankets bite-sized, Asda also has plenty of options to suit every festive feast and budget. Shoppers hosting a Christmas party can choose from 37 products in Asda’s 7 for £10 frozen party food deal, including Spicy Jalapeño Pigs in Blankets. By selecting seven packs of pigs in blankets, customers can pick up an incredible 84 pigs in blankets for £10.

The Spicy Jalapeño Pigs in Blankets, available separately for £3.50, have a two-star chilli rating and bring an added kick to the much-loved festive classic.

Elsewhere in the range, shoppers can find Asda Pigs in Blankets, weighing 222g and priced at £2.74, as well as the indulgent Exceptional by Asda Wagyu Pigs in Blankets, offering a suitably boujee upgrade for the Christmas table. Also joining the party this year are Asda’s Exceptional Beechwood Smoked Pig in Blanket flavoured crisps, 150g, priced at £1.50.
