Novelist Roger loves a good natter with our popular Gosforth checkouts colleague Betty
Novelist Roger Harvey and his wife Sheila are regular shoppers at our Gosforth store and love going to our colleague Betty Brunskill's checkout for a good natter!
Roger, who sets his romantic stories in 1960s Northumberland, says they always make a beeline for Betty. He said: "We love Betty; she's a great checkout lady. She's really, really nice, very good at her job and very amiable. She's a wonderful ambassador for Asda.
"We go every Monday morning for our main shop and sometimes pop in during the week if we need anything. We always go to Betty and have a good chat.
"She can have a conversation with the customer, but she's always checking out the goods too. She is very efficient at her job.
"Having a chat with customers is very important. Everyone wants to talk to someone and Betty is super for that. Let's have many more Bettys in our stores!"
Betty's been reading three of Roger's most recent books - Room For Us, Room For Love and Room For Me – which he kindly signed for her.
Roger said: "Betty was saying how much she was enjoying them! She says there was definitely room for more. She wants a sequel now, so I'm going to have to write a sequel just for Betty. It may take a couple of years to do it, but I probably will now."
Our store's community champion Michelle Castledine said: "Betty loves the books. She's on her third one now. She likes them as they feature local areas and local landmarks in their stories so you can see where the characters are.
"Betty's smile is on her face every day and it's a heart warming smile, we all love her here. We call her Wor Betty!"
Vicky Morgan, the store's customer trading manager, added: "Betty is a lovely colleague regular customers will look out for her checkout. She's always friendly to everyone customers and colleagues."
