Our Diverse Property Portfolio
Asda’s roots date back to a family business formed in the 1920’s in West Yorkshire, and today Asda serves over 20 million customers each week through over 1,200 stores and food service sites.
From bustling superstores to agile grocery home shopping hubs, our property portfolio reflects the dynamic nature of modern retail.
We operate across a wide range of locations, each tailored to serve our customers efficiently and sustainably:-
- Superstores and SupermarketsThe heart of our retail experience, offering a full range of products and services.

- Distribution CentresStrategic logistics centres that keep our supply chain moving smoothly.
- Grocery Home Shopping SitesPurpose-built facilities that support our online delivery network.
Across all our store formats, our approach is to continually improve and innovate our estate. We invest in technological solutions which reduce running cost and energy use, which helps deliver Asda’s commitment to carbon emissions reduction.
Most site formats include:-
-
Refrigeration: energy-efficient systems that reduce carbon footprint while keeping products fresh.
-
Lighting : smart LED solutions that lower energy use and enhance the shopping experience.
-
Voltage optimisation units: systems which reduce our energy consumption.
Our larger format stores, known as Superstores, are designed to deliver a comprehensive shopping experience. With an average floor space of approximately 45k square feet, these expansive sites allow us to offer a wide range of products and services under one roof, from groceries and clothing to homeware, pharmacies, opticians and more.
But it’s not just about size, it’s about running our stores in the most energy efficient ways we can, and avoiding construction waste.
Construction Waste Management
We have detailed site waste management plans for our new store builds, which our contractors implement to make sure nothing is wasted or sent to landfill.

Solar – a work in progress
We installed rooftop solar panels at several of our stores a number of years ago. As Solar technologies have evolved and improved since then, we recognise that our solar systems are ready for an upgrade. We want to go much further with this technology in the coming years, and we’re working out a roadmap to make that happen.
Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging
We comply with regulations by installing one EV charger for every ten parking spaces.
