Our Belfast Westwood store's community champion Noeleen McMahon joined volunteers from a telephone befriending service to host a special Valentine's Day party for older people who might otherwise have been on their own.

Noeleen regularly volunteers with Good Morning Colin and helped serve lunch donated by the store. The fun afternoon also featured musical entertainment and gifts for the guests.

The group was founded in 2002 and is a free community-based support service for older and vulnerable people. It provides reassurance through daily telephone calls and support as well as integrating people into their communities and helping them access local services.

The group's coordinator Isabel Flood said: "Valentine’s Day can be a very lonely time for some of the older people in our community, so being able to give them something to look forward to and enjoy is amazing. There was music, dancing, a box of chocolates for everyone who attended – and also a red rose for the ladies.

"We can’t thank Asda enough for providing the meals to make this Valentine’s lunch that little bit more special for all our members. We would also like to say a big thank you to Noeleen for her continued support."

Noeleen, who also helped out at the group's Christmas party, said: "Being able to help Good Morning Colin this Valentine’s Day was a real pleasure. It was great to get fully involved at the lunch and have a chance to sit down and chat to everyone. Through the Asda Foundation, we were able to supply Good Morning Colin with three-course meals for all who attended."
